Dr. Jill Biden’s Community College to Career tour featuring Vaupell

Dr. Jill Biden, wife of VP Joe Biden, visited Southern Seattle Community College (SSCC) on July 9th. Vaupell, a manufacturer of injection molded parts and the market leader in aerospace, had their own Vatrone Vann (Manufacturing Lead) and Mary Porter (Corporate HR Manager) join Dr. Biden to promote the Community College to Career program. The program is designed to support training in high demand markets, where SSCC specializes in aviation. Mr. Vann and Mrs. Porter were in attendance to discuss their unique relationship with Northern Seattle Community College. Do to the growth of the aerospace industry Vaupell has had to increase their workforce by 46% over 14 months to 402 employees to keep up with the demand. Training of the new members of the team has been demanding. Vaupell has had a long standing active relationship with NSCC and has partnered with them to provide the resources to come into Vaupell’s facility in Everett, WA, for onsite training. The training provides the new employees with a solid understanding of lean manufacturing, single piece flow, tubing inventory systems, and waste reduction. The Community College to Career program has helped Vaupell create a more cohesive, organized, and fast moving team. In 2001, as Boeing parts suppliers cut jobs in response to Boeing's layoffs, Vaupell Industrial Plastics headed in the other direction. Seeking to break out of its mold as a contractor whose Boeing sales were primarily of Boeing-designed plastic parts, the small firm located in Seattle's Ballard area set its sights on joining the ranks of big suppliers that not only build parts but design them, too. Boeing supplier Vaupell opens second plant in Everett

Boeing plastics supplier Vaupell Inc. is breaking out of its historic Ballard roots and has opened a second Puget Sound factory in Everett. The new 18,000-foot Everett facility, which features an advanced painting line, will give injection plastics molder Vaupell proximity to Boeing’s Everett production line, said Vaupell President Joe Jahn. Boeing received it's largest order ever for the 737. As it ramps up 737 production to record levels, Boeing looks to their suppliers to also ramp up their production. Boeing put their suppliers, like Vaupell, to the test. "One of those tests: getting Vaupell to make 737 windows faster than required. Vaupell passed, but the pressure continues. Like a lot of suppliers, Vaupell's been expanding. It expanded here in Everett, investing a 1.5 million dollars. It's hired 100 new employees in the last year and a half and continues to hire." Midwest Division gains AS9100 Certification

Vaupell's Midwest division located in Constantine, MI completed an audit and was certified to ISO 9001:2000 with design and AS9100 Revision B. Vaupell now has two of our operations certified to this standard and we believe that it provides better geographical coverage and unique capabilities to better serve our aerospace customers in the Midwest and other areas of the United States.
