Dr. Jill Biden, wife of VP Joe Biden, visited Southern Seattle Community College (SSCC) on July 9th. Vaupell, a manufacturer of injection molded parts and the market leader in aerospace, had their own Vatrone Vann (Manufacturing Lead) and Mary Porter (Corporate HR Manager) join Dr. Biden to promote the Community College to Career program. The program is designed to support training in high demand markets, where SSCC specializes in aviation. Mr. Vann and Mrs. Porter were in attendance to discuss their unique relationship with Northern Seattle Community College. Do to the growth of the aerospace industry Vaupell has had to increase their workforce by 46% over 14 months to 402 employees to keep up with the demand. Training of the new members of the team has been demanding. Vaupell has had a long standing active relationship with NSCC and has partnered with them to provide the resources to come into Vaupell’s facility in Everett, WA, for onsite training. The training provides the new employees with a solid understanding of lean manufacturing, single piece flow, tubing inventory systems, and waste reduction. The Community College to Career program has helped Vaupell create a more cohesive, organized, and fast moving team.
